Last night I had the strangest dream. I dreamed I was in a new venue full of people, brilliant musicianship, and general Christmas cheer and frivolity. A stage full of Tennessee’s finest artists were gathered in one place to share their gifts.

Ten out of Tenn Onstage

No, wait, THAT WASN’T A DREAM! That was Ten out of Tenn, stopping in Knoxville on their Christmas tour. And what a blast it was! The venue was The Square Room, downtown Knoxville’s newest music venue located on Market Square. I must admit, I was only familiar with about two of the ten artists that performed, but I was impressed by all of them:

The performances included traditional Christmas songs, as well as several original songs. The artists rotated in and out of the spotlight and complemented each other instrumentally and vocally. Everyone was comfortable with themselves and their fellow artists, and that made the show for me. Well, that, and the fact that they covered Bob Dylan’s “I Shall Be Released” in their encore.

I’m pumped to see what these fine musicians will accomplish in the future, and I can’t wait to go back to The Square Room. Be sure and check out the Ten out of Tenn - Christmas

“I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of our currency, first by INFLATION, then by DEFLATION, the banks and the corporations that will grow up around (the banks) will deprive the people of all property, until their children wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs.”

I Do Not Choose to Be a Common Man

It is my right to be uncommon—if I can.

I seek opportunity—not security. I do not wish to be a kept citizen, humbled and dulled by having the state look after me.

I want to take the calculated risk; to dream and to build, to fail and to succeed.

I refuse to barter incentive for a dole. I prefer the challenges of life to the guaranteed existence; the thrill of fulfillment to the stale calm of utopia.

I will not trade freedom for beneficence nor my dignity for a handout. I will never cower before any master nor bend to any threat.

It is my heritage to stand erect, proud and unafraid; to think and act for myself, enjoy the benefit of my creations and to face the world boldly and say, “This I have done.”

It has recently been noted that Apple’s Laptop market share has made an impressive jump over the past year. While I would say this is good news, it does get me thinking.

I think Apple’s “underdog” status has helped them profoundly in the past. The burden of being impressive is quite large, and Apple (Steve Jobs) has handled it well.

However, if(and I realize this is a huge if) Apple ever did outsell everyone else and dominate the market, I feel like they would lose that drive to be excellent. I could be wrong though. They’ve done well dominating the portable music device market. However, things like DRM and an iTunes Music Store that is only iPod friendly is what I’m talking about. I feel like Apple will serve it’s customer’s better while they are the underdog….

Hey everybody. Welcome to my new personal blog. If you hadn’t already noticed, davidangel.net has recently become a touch boring. You can blame this on “growing up” and “being responsible” and perhaps “professionalism.”

Sometimes teamwork doesn't pay off.

I truly hope to avoid all those nasty words here on the new davidius.net! Here I will hopefully have time to post crazy videos, pictures, thoughts, tutorials, stupid links, poetry, and what ever else I may come up with. Hope to see you around…

Unalbe to show flash video

Back in my college days(sophomore year?) I had the absolute privilege of performing a gig in the Chet Overall Band at Bonhoeffer’s. It was awesome. I wasn’t nervous at all. Shawn Irwin tore it up on the harmonica, which is my favorite part, actual talent. Heck yeah.
